Sparkle Counseling specializes in treatment for children and adolescents, but any person of any age is welcome to become a client. We offer a blend of traditional and experiential therapy in order to best treat clients according to their individual needs. Serving the Denver area, it was founded in 2011 by Melissa Houser, who endeavors to renew her clients’ faith in themselves and reignite their inner spark.
Experiential therapy is a category of related therapeutic approaches designed to identify and treat hidden or subconscious issues. Through the observation of actions, movement, and activities experiential therapists collect the data they need to diagnose and treat clients.
Art Therapy, as defined by the AATA, is use of the creative process and resulting artwork to explore feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior and addictions, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem.
Like Art Therapy, Play Therapy seeks to uncover and treat underlying problems through a process that is as comfortable to children as it is familiar. A trained play therapist recognizes manifestations of psychosocial problems that occur during play and works with clients to prevent and resolve these issues.
Based on Carl Jung's psychological work, Sandplay Therapy was developed by the Swiss psychotherapist and teacher Dora Kalff. This technique illuminates unconscious processes of the mind with tangible representations that aid in diagnosis and treatment. (For more on all 3 therapies visit our links page.)
